A Spring Thunderstorm

The proverbial smell of rain
Brings about tranquillity and opulence
As I watch it plummet towards the earth.

While brilliant flashes of lightning
Divide across the sky
Like veins in the arms of mighty Zeus.

And the echo of thunder reverberates
As it travels across the timid landscape
And the rain increases in intensity
As each drop seeped through the tired terrain.

And each drop trickles from one leaf to the next
As though mother nature weeps
And laments over her children.

And witnessing this spectacle of nature,
I recall the days of my youth
When I would frolic and dance in the rain
Until the clouds would finally give way to the sun.
